Dr. Edlyn Peña, Assistant Professor, and Kimberly Austin, doctoral student at California Lutheran University, are seeking nominations for exemplary faculty members who have been particularly supportive, responsive, and effective at teaching and/or advising students with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), including Asperger’s. If you are a parent, colleague, or student who knows a faculty member who fits this description, please nominate them or forward the following announcement to them.
What is the study about?
This study will explore faculty members’ experiences in teaching and advising students with ASD. Information will be gathered in a one-hour interview. The study’s results will lead to important knowledge about identifying effective teaching and advising practices of faculty who interact with students with ASD. The information will also be used to develop professional development opportunities for faculty members to improve their understanding and interactions with students on the spectrum. Participation in this study and any personal information collected from participants will be strictly confidential. Participants will receive $30 for their time.
What are the criteria for participation?
· Faculty member at a university, college, or community college who has taught students with ASD.
· Nominated by a student, parent, or colleague for being particularly supportive and responsive to students with ASD
· Willing to meet for a one-hour interview that will be audio and/or video recorded
Please note that participants may opt to discontinue participation in the study at any point in time.
How will participants be compensated for their time and participation?
Participants will receive $30 upon completion of a one-hour interview.
